THE FALL

AURUMLOGIK Brand Film By Pedro Alvarenga and Cosmo Cine

Summary

A group of five individuals find themselves running away from a seemingly invisible predator; the main question is, do all these events occur as the beginning of a new reality?

Follow the story of our survivors as the film brings an authentic look at humanity in a post-apocalyptic world. Time starts to move backwards as the heroes unravel in reverse. Observe a journey of contemplation and survival, a feeling of potential to be explored, and the sense of being human in a dystopian world.

Watch and feel what it means to survive amidst chaos and destruction as two heroes fall in love, cling to each other in passion, and face the unknown together.

Brief & Objective of the film

The idea for the film was to, first and foremost, create a sensory atmosphere that would evoke a mysterious and cinematic mood. It is under this atmosphere that the character introduction occurs.

The main idea was to create a concrete element that materialises our brand's conceptual mood.

As such, the main narrative is driven by a mystical element, an ambiguous extraterrestrial phenomenon, an event that will be responsible for the "blossoming" of the senses.

Using an original soundtrack, we used images that feel thematically connected to our characters and this mystic element.

Direction

We aimed to craft an expressive cinematic production shot almost entirely on hand-held or Steadicam. We wanted to showcase a variety of situations where individuals were captured in contemplative moments and to bring out both scope of the natural world and the energy between the characters in the narrative.

Through the application of VFX, the surroundings added a sense of awe-inspiring potential to the shot, highlighting the human experience and the sensations of love and passion in a new world.

We endeavoured to tap into the core of humanity, alluding to elements such as Earth and Fire and concepts like Time, Life, Death, and Exploration.

Our aspiration was for the music to resonate with a more profound significance within the film, leaving room for the visuals and our audience's imaginations to wander.

Cinematography

Our cinematic objective was to create an atmosphere of light built around twilight. Our vision was to feature most of the film during the evening and night, in contrast to the natural-looking dark appearance, brightened only by the fiery-red fire in the concluding scene.

We aimed to capture the details of the land enveloping the characters, creating shots of their open space with their bodies outlined against the fiery glow.

When it came to the couple, we aimed to convey a sense of passion and raw emotion. The delicate balance between lust and the driving need for survival was captured by playing with light and colour, culminating in a shared moment of embracing and kissing.

Editing

In line with our goal of creating an immersive cinematic experience, we adopted a meticulous approach to the film’s editing style. Our visual goal was to put together visuals that captured the essence of the film’s themes and emotions.

We utilised various techniques, including careful pacing, crafted cuts, and a nuanced approach to scene composition. We aimed to create a seamless and cohesive visual narrative, a journey that unfolded before the viewer’s eyes, taking them through the film’s world.

In the end, our editing style was a reflection of our commitment to creating a film that was not only visually pleasing but also evocative. We sought to create a cinematic experience that left a lasting impression on the viewer.

Colour correction / Grading

Regarding colour grading, we held an unwavering commitment to crafting a visually striking and immersive cinematic experience. Our objective was to create an aura of depth and richness while preserving a natural look and feel.

We employed various techniques to enhance the colours that already existed within the raw footage, carefully balancing saturation and tonality to achieve a balanced visual palette.

Our approach was grounded in a desire to transport our viewers into a world of wonder, a visual tapestry that genuinely immerses the audience in the film's world. From the first frame to the last, we aimed to create a compelling and mesmerising experience that would leave a lasting impact on the viewer.

Sound design

Our movie is a film that is very dependent on mood, on the flow between silence and sound. We have characters running from something that travels from one world to another. We believe a method of non-verbal communication was more suited for the narrative; we cherished the silence between them and created a truly universal language.

Visual effects

To craft an otherworldly atmosphere, we employed a combination of light and practical yet impactful visual effects that were simple yet effective.

The first VFX shot, one of the most impactful in the film, was created by a mysterious light in the sky, achieved through a powerful lightning bolt. The scene was carefully crafted to convey a sense of awe and wonder, with the couple frozen in time as they realise the power of the natural phenomenon before them.

The second VFX shot that we see in the film is a close-up of our main character's eye, alluding to elements such as Water and Fire. We aimed to create an immersive and unforgettable visual experience that captivates and engages the viewer from beginning to end.
